Canggu riding is short hops on narrow, busy lanes \u2014 Batu Bolong to Berawa, the shortcut to
\nPererenan, a run down to the beach. An automatic scooter is the honest answer for most people:
\neasy to park, easy in traffic, cheap to run. A 155cc automatic handles two people and a surfboard
\nrack without complaint.<\/p>\n
Take something bigger if Canggu is a base rather than a destination. A 250cc single or a
\nmid-range sport bike turns the ride to Tanah Lot, Tabanan or the west coast into the good part of
\nthe day rather than the commute. Riders with experience on large machines take the 650cc cruisers
\nand 900cc nakeds out along the coast road north.<\/p>\n
Canggu traffic is slow and dense at the Batu Bolong junction between about 16:00 and 19:00 \u2014
\nbudget extra time, or take the inland lanes. Parking is easy on a scooter and awkward on a big
\nbike outside the beach clubs. The lanes flood quickly in heavy rain; if the sky opens, wait it out
\nrather than riding through standing water on unfamiliar roads.<\/p>\n
Rates are the same wherever you ride from \u2014 we do not charge a premium for Canggu.
\nScooters and 155cc automatics start around 200,000 IDR per day. Mid-range bikes between
\n230cc and 500cc run roughly 300,000 to 600,000 IDR. Large-capacity machines \u2014 650cc cruisers,
\n900cc nakeds \u2014 start from about 1,000,000 IDR and reach 2,500,000 IDR for the top of the fleet.<\/p>\n
The minimum rental is three days \u2014 a one- or two-day hire is charged at the three-day rate
\nanyway, so you may as well keep the bike. From there the daily price drops at 7, 15 and 30 days.
\nIf you are staying a fortnight, booking the whole period at once is noticeably cheaper than two
\nshort rentals.<\/p>\n
Every rental includes a helmet. Insurance is an optional add-on rather than part of the base
\nrate, and we recommend it on anything above 250cc. A refundable deposit starts at 2,000,000 IDR
\nand rises with the value of the bike. To ride legally you need an International Driving Permit
\nendorsed for motorcycles.<\/p>\n
